Ve. Sokolov et al., ON THE AGE-DIFFERENCES OF THE BEHAVIOR OF NORWAY RATS (RATTUS-NORVEGICUS) WITH ABLATED WHISKERS, Zoologiceskij zurnal, 73(2), 1994, pp. 131-138
A comparative study of behavioral age differences of rats was carried
out in an experimental chamber with optic border. The ablation of whis
kers and olfactic deprivation caused decrease of motility and the crit
erion of whiskeral sensibility, which was more in younger animals than
in adults. Thus, the younger rats are more ivulnerable to the loss of
whiskers and olfaction. The criterion of whiskeral sensibility was hi
gher in adult rats than in younger ones throughout the experimental pe
riod. This fact can be evidence of more pronounced at the age of 2 to
3 months optic orientatioun. The sex differences of the behaviour were
not detected in younger rats.
