Significant outbreaks have recently occured in understanding the under
lying mechanisms of cellular malignant transformation. The aim of this
article is to review, based on current literature, the dynamics of ce
llular transformation and to show that those steps toward malignancy a
re not random. The first part is a description of growth factor recept
ors and their signaling pathways. The second part deals with anomalies
in these structures and with a short review of the present knowledge
in veterinary medicine.
