Abstract
The infrared and Raman spectra of the gem-dimethylsuccinic acid and it s alkaline salts have been recorded in aqueous solution. An assignment of the fundamental vibrations is proposed. The analysis of the polari zation ratio suggests that the acid and its salts belong to the C(s) s ymmetry point group.
