We discuss how contributions to the order O(malpha8) orthopositronium
decay rate can be separated into two categories, one due to relativist
ic momenta and calculable in terms of quantum electrodynamics scatteri
ng amplitudes, the other due to low momenta and calculable in the simp
ler framework of a low-energy effective theory. We report new results
for all low-momentum contributions, and give a formula relating the re
maining contributions to conventional (on-shell) quantum electrodynami
cs scattering amplitudes.
