In scanning tunneling microscope images of the one-dimensional inorgan
ic material K2Pt(CN)4Br0.33.xH2O the chain-like structure of the Pt at
oms and bonded ligands are observed with atomic resolution. Varying th
e junction bias voltage reveals different aspects of the atomic charac
ter of this material. No inhomogeneity is seen within the chains that
can be related to the possible random occupation of the Br sites.
