Anthropometric variation in the population of the island of Fag (easte
rn Adriatic, Croatia) was investigated by using data on 14 head and 24
body dimensions. The data were related to past and present migration
patterns, geography, and linguistics. The analyses revealed heterogene
ity among three population groups inhabiting geographically defined re
gions of the island and heterogeneity among the village populations. T
he congruence between anthropometric variation, migration history, geo
graphic distances, and current linguistic features says much for the s
trength of the isolating factors on this ecologically uniform island,
which have effected the genetic structure of the population.
