Abstract
Pyridiniumhydrobromide perbromide (Py+HBr3-) demethylates methoxyanili nes, methoxybenzoic acids, 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid, methoxy nitro benzene, methoxynaphthalines and guaiacol to the corresponding phenols in quantitative yields. Demethylation of the methoxy group substitute d at aryl part of isatin nucleus furnish the required hydroxy group.
