H. Blanchier et al., GENITAL HERPES AND PREGNANCY - PREVENTIVE MEASURES, European journal of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology, 53(1), 1994, pp. 33-38
Genital herpes is particularly dangerous during pregnancy because of t
he risk of neonatal infection. This is discussed in four situations of
genital herpes associated with pregnancy. Choosing the most appropria
te method of delivery, i.e. carrying the least risk of transmission fr
om mother to baby, is based on our knowledge of the natural history of
genital herpes infection, the risk to the newborn (estimated from epi
demiological studies), and, lastly, the possible preventive measures a
vailable.
