The (p, 2p) and (p, 2p) and (p, pn) reactions on Na-23, Si-28, Si-29,
Si-30, P-31, S-34, and K-39 nuclei were investigated by using the 1.0
GeV proton beam of the SPINP synchrocyclotron as a source of protons.
Kinematically complete sets of measurements were carried out with the
help of a correlation missing-mass spectrometer with approximately 3.5
MeV FWHM total resolution. Various Skyrme-Hartree-Fock effective nucl
eon-nucleon potentials and a phenomenological axially-deformed potenti
al of a mean field of a nucleus were used to analyze the experimental
data. The deformation parameters and the quadrupole moments of the pro
ton and the neutron component of nuclear density are determined by fit
ting calculated single particle spectra of neutrons and protons to mea
sured spectra. In contrast to other investigated nuclei with 2s-1d she
lls, nuclei of silicon isotopes were found to be of oblate shape. The
deformation effects are small in the K-39 nucleus, which can be consid
ered as virtually spherical.
