S. Higuchi et al., DEVELOPMENT OF BABESIA-OVATA IN THE SALIVARY-GLANDS OF THE NYMPHAL TICK, HAEMAPHYSALIS-LONGICORNIS, Journal of veterinary medical science, 56(1), 1994, pp. 207-209
The development of Babesia ovata in the salivary glands of nymphal Hae
maphysalis longicornis ticks was morphologically studied for 4 days of
feeding of tick on rabbits. Babesia ovata showed two forms (sporont a
nd sporozoite) in the budding process. Sporozoites were formed in the
acinar cells of salivary glands and released from the hollow cytoplasm
ic area of these cells by day 4 of feeding.
