W. Grimm et al., TACHYCARDIA IN WOLFF-PARKINSON-WHITE-SYND ROME AND VARIANTS OF ACCESSORY AV-CONNECTIONS, Die medizinische Welt, 48(1), 1997, pp. 20-27
With success rates of more than 90%, catheter ablation with radiofrequ
ency energy is meanwhile the long-term therapy of choice in symptomati
c patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. This overview describe
s the electrocardiographic characteristics of tachycardias in WPW synd
rome, which lead to the correct diagnosis of the tachycardia in 80-90%
of cases by analysis of the surface EGG. Due to the results of electr
ophysiologic studies with catheter ablation in patients with variants
of accessory pathways, the old anatomic view of Mahaim syndrome and Lo
wn-Ganong-Levine syndrome had to be revised. This article summarizes t
he new pathophysiological understanding of tachycardias in Mahaim synd
rome and LGL syndrome.
