La. Shpagina et al., DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF ANEMIA IN PATI ENTS EXPOSED TO AROMATIC ORGANIC-SOLVENTS, Terapevticeskij arhiv, 68(12), 1996, pp. 15-19
171 iron-deficient painters and 20 subjects with chronic intoxication
with aromatic hydrocarbons were studied in a large aircraft constructi
on factory. After correlative analysis of iron metabolism, ferritin, e
rythrocytes, diameter and perimeter of reticulocytes, length of servic
e three types of iron-deficiency were identified: typical, with eviden
t toxicity, with a high risk of toxic damage. An important role of lip
id peroxidation activity and toxic erythrocytomembranopathy for pathom
orphosis of iron deficiency anemia and progress of toxical anemia is d
emonstrated. A differential approach to treatment of different anemia
variants was used. The treatment included membranoprotectors (alpha-to
copherol, essentiale, lypostabil) and unspecific detoxication (SUMS-en
terosorbent, unitiol).
