Abstract
Mutagenic effects of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) precursors: sodium nitrite (SN), dimethylamine (DMA) and amidopyryne (AP), have been stud ied in the Ames test. Administration of SN caused strong mutagenic eff ect in Salmonella typhimurium TA 100, amines had no mutagenic activity . Mutagenic effect of mixtures SN and DMA or SN and AP differed depend ing on the properties of nitrosable precursor. In the agar medium NDMA was found (0.03-4.0 mg/l). Concentration of the formed carcinogen was inversely proportional to the mutagenic effect in the same Petri plat e. In complex mixtures containing both nitrosamines and their precurso rs the mutagenic effect of SN may predominate.
