Abstract
Alpha particles from the dissociation of He-6 and Li-6 on Al and Au ta rgets have been observed at 5-degrees in the laboratory for beam energ ies near 65 MeV/nucleon. Coincident gamma rays were observed by an arr ay of BaF2 scintillators that surrounded the target, subtending 90% of the solid angle. In all cases at least half of the observed events we re accompanied by gamma rays, presumably from excitation of the target via nuclear processes. For He-6 incident on the Au target, the data p ermit an approximate separation into nuclear and Coulomb processes; th e latter are in qualitative agreement with theoretical predictions.
