In order to give a better insight into the vibrational properties of a
nthocyanins, the synthesis and the vibrational studies of some hydroxy
flavylium derivatives with a controlled substitution pattern have been
performed. The IR, Raman and resonance Raman spectra of the investiga
ted hydroxyflavylium compounds have been recorded in the solid and sol
ution states. A number of lines have been assigned on the basis of deu
terium isotopic shifts. resonance enhancement and previous studies on
parent compounds. An attempt has been made to analyze the influence of
hydroxy substituents on vibrational properties of the investigated fl
avylium cations.
