Abstract
Optical extinction in mammalian tissues is measured at 633 nm by using heterodyne detection. Its sensitivity, directivity and signal to nois e ratio allow to detect coherent photons after attenuation up to 10 op tical densities. This method permits us to detect unscattered photons passing through more than 5 mm of different tissues such as : muscle, skin and liver.
