Abstract
The stellated octahedron-like cluster [Fe-6(mu(3)-Se)(8)(PEt(3))(6)][P F6], obtained by reaction of [Fe(H2O)(6)][BF4](2) with PEt(3) and H2Se in the presenceof PF6-, has been characterized by a complete X-ray di ffraction study. Crystal data: space group R (3) over bar, a = 11.779( 4) Angstrom, alpha = 92.32(3)degrees, Z = 1. The inner core of the spe cies [Fe-6(mu(3)-Se)(8)(PEt(3))(6)](+), which is paramagnetic with a m agnetic moment of 7.8 mu(B), consists of an octahedron of iron atoms w ith all the faces symmetrically capped by selenium ligands.
