Abstract
The development of a selenoxide - sulfonic acid system for the mild an d selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides is reported. Various s elenoxide and sulfonic acid combinations were studied in the search fo r an effective system. A mechanism for the oxidation is proposed and t he potential for the development of an asymmetric oxidation system is assessed.
