Chrysosporium pilosum sp. nov., a keratinophilic hyphomycete isolated
from river sediments and soil, is described. The fungus is characteriz
ed by its restricted growth on agar media at 25/37 degrees C and the p
roduction of conidia on deflected short protrusions, but its most prom
inent feature is the presence of broad, simple, thick-walled, brownish
, sterile hyphae. The taxonomic position of the species is discussed.
