Abstract
Nonactivated alcohols are oxidized to ketones by MnO2 in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of [RuCl2(p-cymene)](2) (1) and 2,6-d i-tert-butylbenzoquinone (2). The reaction proceeds via a ruthenium-ca talyzed dehydrogenation of the alcohol and subsequent hydrogen transfe r to 2,6-ditert-butylbenzoquinone (2). The hydroquinone formed is reox idized to quinone by MnO2.
