Sj. Bryant et al., THE 1988-92 DROUGHT IN ITS HISTORICAL-PERSPECTIVE, Journal of the Institution of Water and Environmental Management, 8(1), 1994, pp. 39-51
During the period 1988-92, the south and east of England were subjecte
d to drought conditions. Data from 10 catchments and three groundwater
level records were analysed using runoff and groundwater deficit indi
ces to place the drought in its historical perspective. In parts of ea
stern England the drought was the most extreme - in terms of runoff de
ficit-for at least 150 years. It was less notable in other parts of so
uthern England, but still extreme.
