Abstract
We show that the protein-folding activity of ribosome evolved probably prior to evolution of its translational activity since the total ribo somal RNA could also assist refolding of denatured proteins. This also points at some general protein-folding activity of ribosomal RNA, a k ind of activity of RNA that has not been reported earlier.
