B. Wirth et al., URETERAL STENTING USING A COMBINED ANTEGRADE RETROGRADE PROCEDURE - ATECHNIQUE FOR DIFFICULT CASES/, Scandinavian journal of urology and nephrology, 31(1), 1997, pp. 35-37
Ureteral stenting is a procedure of daily routine. There are however c
ases in which cystoscopic placement of a stent fails despite various t
echnical aids. Percutaneous nephrostomy is usually performed in those
patients. In some cases however it is no reasonable alternative. For t
hese special cases we used a combined antegrade/retrograde technique c
onsisting in antegrade guide wire insertion followed by retrograde ure
teral stenting. In 8 of 12 cases it was finally possible to insert a u
reteral stent with this method. To our mind this technique should be a
pplied when other attempts of stenting have failed and percutaneous ne
phrostomy is no reasonable alternative.
