Abstract
Modifications of the standard Poisson brackets associated with differe ntial scattering operators are considered. A linear bracket originates from a non-standard r-matrix on the algebra of pseudo-differential op erators. Two quadratic brackets are investigated which provide Hamilto nian formulations for various reductions of the modified KP hierarchy.
