S. Turina et al., DETERMINING CARBON CONTENT IN STEELS BY M EANS OF OPTICAL-EMISSION-SPECTROMETRIC (OES) METHODS, Strojarstvo, 35(3-4), 1993, pp. 165-167
An investigation was carried out regarding the difference between the
two kinds of mechanism in excitation of carbon atoms from steel, one w
ith the application of an electric arc and the other with the discarge
glow. It was found that when electrical arc is applied, many factors
influence on ecitation which makes impossible to keep them under contr
ol and the results cannot be repeated. On the other hand, if the glow
discharge is applied for excitation, it is possible to repeat the resu
lts. The experiments were carried out with steel W. No (C4850) but wit
h the various heat treatments.
