Abstract
Five para-fluorobenzene derivatives having a -CH=CR(2) or a -CH=NR gro up were prepared and their H-1 and F-19 NMR spectra in acetone-d(6) we re analysed. The (6)J(H-alpha,F) and (4)J(H-alpha,H) couplings of the nitrogen derivatives fall between those of the carbon and oxygen deriv atives: the electronegativity of the side-chain beta-atom seems to hav e a prominent role in the spin information transmission. The (6)J(H-al pha,F) and (4)J(H-alpha,H) couplings indicate that the nitrogen deriva tives are rigidly planar whereas the carbon derivatives are non-planar .
