Abstract
The low-temperature hysteresis magnetic properties of Dy(Fe0.8Al0.2)(2 ) and Dy(Fe0.8Si0.2)(2) have been studied. The staircase character of the magnetization and demagnetization curves observed at T<10 K has be en shown to be due to a sharp increase in the sample temperature under the heat released at irreversible domain wall motion. The essential c onditions for observations of low-temperature magnetization jumps have been formulated.
