The stoichiometric activation of 1-ethynyl-1-cyclohexanol by [RuCl(PPh
3)2(eta-C9H7)] in the presence of NaPF6 allows the formation of the pr
opadienylidene ruthenium complex 1, containing a new spirobicyclic sys
tem which is formed through an unprecedented coupling process. The cry
stal structure of 1 has been determined by X-ray diffraction crystallo
graphy.
