Abstract
The gene encoding a putative core protein of a mucin-like glycoprotein was identified in Trypanosoma cruzi. It contains five repeats of elev en amino acids each, eight of which are Thr and two of which are Pro r esidues. These Thr-Pro-rich repeats resemble the ones in the human MUC 2 gene encoding mucin.
