Cordiaquinones C and D, two further examples of a new type of sesquite
rpenoid quinones, have been isolated from the roots of Cordia corymbos
a. Both are carboxylic esters of 6-hydroxyalkyl substituted naphthoqui
nones. Cordiaquinone C has an unrearranged sesquiterpenoid skeleton wh
ich can be considered the biogenetic precursor of the rearranged analo
gues A and B described in previous work. Cordiaquinone D is the hexaco
sanoic ester of cordiaquinone A.
