Abstract
Poly(vinyl chloride) was dehydrochlorinated in alkali solution and the n grafted with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) using benzoyl peroxi de as a free-radical initiator under a nitrogen atmosphere. The invest igations involved examining the effects of grafting efficiency on vari ous conditions, such as degree of dehydrochlorination, HEMA concentrat ion, solvent effect, and reaction time. Maximum grafting to the extent of 57.2% was obtained. The mixed solvent grafting was attempted. (C) 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
