Abstract
A series of perylene dyes containing aliphatic trialkylamino and quate rnary ammonium groups has been prepared Perylene dyes containing trial kylamino groups were virtually nonfluorescent Quaternization of the tr ialkylamino groups with alkyl iodide resulted in an increase in the fl uorescence (Q(f) = 0.8-0.9); the same phenomenon was observed by proto nation of the trialkylamino groups in acid media.
