U. Aspock et al., NEW SPECIES OF THE FAMILY RAPHIDIIDAE FRO M MEXICO AND EVIDENCE OF A SPERMATOPHORE IN THE ORDER RAPHIDIOPTERA (INSECTA, NEUROPTEROIDEA), Entomologia generalis, 18(3-4), 1994, pp. 145-163
In a living couple (reared from larvae) of Alena (Aztekoraphidia) infu
ndibulata n.sp., a species recently discovered in Mexico, a spermatoph
ore was detected which represents the first documented finding within
the ordo Raphidioptera. This spermatophore is figured, its position wi
thin the categories of spermatophores as defined by Gerber [1 970] is
discussed. A. infundibulata n. sp. is closely related to Alena (Azteko
raphidia) caudata (Navas 1914) and Alena (Aztekoraphidia) schremmeri n
.sp. The 2 new species are described and figured (alae, male and femal
e genital structures, larvae). The larvae are the first records of ear
ly stages of Alena Navas 1916. a genus with an isolated position withi
n the family. So far both species have been found in the S of Mexico (
State of Oaxaca) only. They represent the southernmost records of exta
nt representatives of the family Raphidiidae in the world.
