Lm. Iruela et al., NALTREXONE INDUCES WEIGHT-GAIN IN INPATIENT TREATMENT OF ANOREXIA-NERVOSA - 4 CASE-REPORTS, Journal of drug development, 6(3), 1994, pp. 123-125
We report four patients with anorexia nervosa who each had a significa
nt weight gain when treated with naltrexone (an opioid antagonist) whi
lst inpatients in a general medical ward. The importance of opioids in
the regulation of feeding behaviour is emphasised, and a possible mec
hanism of action of opiate antagonists in the treatment of eating diso
rders is suggested.
