Abstract
We report four patients with anorexia nervosa who each had a significa nt weight gain when treated with naltrexone (an opioid antagonist) whi lst inpatients in a general medical ward. The importance of opioids in the regulation of feeding behaviour is emphasised, and a possible mec hanism of action of opiate antagonists in the treatment of eating diso rders is suggested.
