Abstract
Recent studies of oral tolerance and experimental colitis indicate tha t the occurrence of gastrointestinal inflammation is determined by a b alance between proinflammatory interferon gamma responses and anti-inf lammatory transforming growth factor beta responses. Here, Warren Stro ber and colleagues discuss the new findings.
