The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of applications of
electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy in pharmacy and medicine
in order to facilitate its increased use. Applications include the ch
aracterization of systems containing endogenous paramagnetic materials
. By means of spin labeling techniques it is possible to determine mic
roviscosity, micropolarity, sulfhydryl groups, pH-values and partial p
ressure of oxygen. Pharmaceutical aspects of EPR imaging as well as in
vivo EPR are discussed.
