The case of a 45-year-old woman with pheochromocytoma, who presented w
ith severe abdominal pain and headache, diabetes mellitus, lactic acid
osis and pulmonary edema, is described and discussed. Spleen infarctio
n, not so far described as an ischemic complication of pheochromocytom
a, was seen in computer tomography. After medical pretreatment with la
betalol, a pheochromocytoma (2x2 cm) of the left adrenal gland was rem
oved. The postoperative course was uneventful.
