Abstract
Precipitation of magnesium hydroxide is the first step in the producti on of various magnesium compounds from seawater. Although the process is well known, kinetic data for the precipitation reaction using slake d lime and dolomite is not available in the literature. In this study, the global kinetics of precipitation of magnesium hydroxide from seaw ater were investigated by monitoring the total calcium and magnesium c omposition of species smaller than 2 mum. The effects of temperature a nd dolomite particle size were also investigated.
