Synthesis of poly (dihaloplienylene oxides) by thermal decomposition o
f bis (4-chloro-2,6-dibromoplienoxo) ethylenediamine copper (II) compl
ex was achieved in toluene at 70-degrees-C. The structural characteriz
ation of polymer were carried out by FTIR, H-1-NMR and C-13-NMR spectr
oscopies and differential scanning calorimetry. It was found that 4-ch
loro-2,6-dibromophenoxide with chelating ligand, ethylenediamine, disp
layed a selectivity in favour of 1,2- catenation.
