Aj. Dhami et Kl. Sahni, COMPARATIVE APPRAISAL OF PHYSICOMORPHOLOGICAL AND ENZYMATIC ATTRIBUTES OF SEMEN AND THEIR INTERRELATIONSHIPS IN OX AND BUFFALO BULLS, Journal of Applied Animal Research, 5(1), 1994, pp. 13-20
The seminal attributes, enzymatic profiles and their interrelationship
s were studied in 36 ejaculates each from 3 HF and 3 Murrah buffalo bu
lls during winter season. Ejaculate volume, abnormal sperm percent and
G.O.T. values were higher in Friesian bulls semen, whereas, sperm con
centration, live sperm percent, AKP, ACP and LDH activities were highe
r in Murrah bull semen. Sperm density, pH, mass activity, initial moti
lity, GPT activity, freezability and fertility rates were of the same
order in the two species. Most of the seminal attributes except ejacul
ate volume were interrelated in both the species. The semen enzymes we
re generally not correlated with seminal attributes in exotic bull sem
en, whereas, in Murrah, these with the exception of AKP were highly co
rrelated with most of the seminal attributes. The semen quality in two
species varied distinctly in respect of most traits.
