A 25-year-old man with acquired Bartter's syndrome, mitral valve prola
pse, and supraventricular tachycardia secondary to a low atrial focus
was diagnosed with asthma. The unique aspects of managing these coexis
ting diseases are evaluated. Calculation of free-water clearance in th
e diagnosis of Bartter's syndrome and the etiology and characteristics
of the syndrome are discussed.
