Methods are described for the separation of the enantiomers (+)- and (
-)-epibatidine and (+)- and (-)-N-acetylepibatidine by high performanc
e liquid chromatography using Chiral-AGP and Chiralcel OD chiral stati
onary phases respectively. Comparison of synthetic material with authe
ntic epibatidine. HCl using retention times and UV spectra allows the
unambiguous assignment of the natural product as the (+)-isomer.
