Dye-sensitized CeO2 and mixed CeO2/SnO2 film electrodes using a Ru(by)
-complex were used as photoanodes in photoelectrochemical solar cells.
The cells were prepared following the description by Gratzel et al.,
but using CeO2 and mixed CeO2/SnO2 film instead of TiO2 film. The reas
ons why CeO2 and mixed CeO2/SnO2 were chosen are the similar optical a
nd electrical properties of CeO2 and TiO2 films and because of a suita
ble, new method of dip-coating preparation which has recently been pub
lished. The authors consider this paper to fall in the category of pre
liminary notes, regarding new results with CeO2 and CeO2/SnO2 used for
the first time as photoanodes in a new generation of nanophase solar
cells.
