Ca. Whapham et al., THE ROLE OF SEAWEED EXTRACTS, ASCOPHYLLUM-NODOSUM, IN THE REDUCTION IN FECUNDITY OF MELOIDOGYNE-JAVANICA, Fundamental and applied nematology, 17(2), 1994, pp. 181-183
The effects are evaluated of commercially-available seaweed extracts,
derived from Ascophyllum nodosum, on the fecundity of the root-knot ne
matode, Meloidogyne javanica, cultured on tomato plants (Lycopersicon
esculentum cv. Ailsa Craig). The numbers of nematode eggs recovered fr
om plants treated with seaweed extract were significantly reduced afte
r one generation, compared to those plants treated with water alone. F
ewer eggs were recovered from plants infected by juveniles hatched in
dilutions of the seaweed extracts compared with those infected by wate
r-hatched juveniles.
