Abstract
Extent of metal pollution in harbour sediments and its impact on the c oastal region of Visakhapatnam have been evaluated using pollution loa d index (PLI). High PLI values of inner harbour (4.5) indicates a high ly polluted zone which can be attributed to the discharge of untreated domestic sewage and industrial effluents. Further, decreasing trend o f pollution load index values from harbour to coastal region suggests dispersion and dilution of metal pollutants.
