L. Adamcikova et al., COMPLEX DYNAMICAL BEHAVIOR IN THE OXIDATION OF HYDROXYLAMINE BY BROMATE, International journal of chemical kinetics, 26(3), 1994, pp. 347-353
Complex dynamical behavior has been observed in the oxidation of hydro
xylamine by bromate in acidic sulfate. The reaction shows clock type k
inetics in closed conditions and an aperiodic oscillations if gaseous
products are removed from the system with a constant flow-rate. The re
duction kinetics of bromate ions with excess hydroxylamine has been st
udied in the presence of allyl alcohol. The observed pseudo-first-orde
r rate constant k(obs) has been found to follow the expression k(obs)
= kK1[H+][hydroxylamine]/(1 + K1[H+])K2 where [hydroxylamine] is total
initial hydroxylamine concentration, K1 = 0.5 M-1, K2 = 10(6) M-1, an
d k - 2.57 X 10(3) M-1 s-1 at 298.15 K and I = 2.0 M. The rate constan
t for the bromine oxidation of hydroxylamine in sulfuric aqueous solut
ion has been determined. (C) 1994 john wiley & sons, inc.
