A procedure for the calculation of diesel fuel motor characteristics u
sing a set of physicochemical data has been proposed. First, the resul
ts of measurements characterizing the quality of diesel fuel samples w
ere submitted to factor analysis, which indicated clustering of diesel
fuels. In the second part of the data analysis, regression on cluster
s was performed. On the basis of six quality properties the specific c
onsumption and smoke of diesel fuel exhaust gases were calculated.
