An instrument for visualizing and determining the, direction of local
two-dimensional magnetic fields by a magneto-optical technique has bee
n built. Using ferrite-garnet films in the homogeneous rotation mode,
we achieved a response time to a magnetic-field change of less than 10
nsec without a notable drop in the magnetic susceptibility. The minim
um measurable magnetic field intensity was 10(-6) Oe. The spatial reso
lution was limited by that of the optical system and was 3 mum.
