Abstract
Serratia marcescens was found to degrade kraft lignin by only 15%. Whe n C-14-radiolabelled lignocelluloses and DHP lignins were used as subs trates the bacterium mineralized to (CO2)-C-14 only 1.1-1.9% and 0.4-0 .8% of the lignins respectively. However, some 43.4% of the C-14-beta- DHP lignin was recovered as soluble radiolabelled products.
