Y. Liu et B. Capdeville, SOME OBSERVATIONS ON FREE AMMONIA INHIBITION TO NITROBACTER IN NITRIFYING BIOFILM REACTOR, Biotechnology letters, 16(3), 1994, pp. 309-314
Free ammonia inhibition to Nitrobacter population in a nitrifying biof
ilm was investigated. It was found that when the free ammonia concentr
ation is greater than 0.1mgN/1, the oxidative activity of Nitrobacter
was significantly inhibited, and resulting in a transient accumulation
of nitrite ions. The results show that Nitrobacter population is capa
ble of rapidly recovering its lost metabolic activity once the free am
monia concentration becomes less than 0.1mgN/1, and a complete oxidati
on of nitrite to nitrate was achieved.
